A struggle. Illustration can come down to utilising a personalised bag of bad habits. Life drawing is drawing what's in front of you.

Stage

 

I've just completed this piece incorporating pencil work, vector line work and a lot of Photoshop.

 

Originally, prior to colouring and adding vector elements such as the stars and anchor and ropes, I pieced all components together in greyscale.

 

 

When it came to overlaying the colour the colour I had to really hold myself back as I wanted a final look that would look like colours washed out with time and age or a look reminiscent of old hand tinted film footage with slightly garish colours such as emerald green and peachy red seeping through.

 

 

 

I'll have prints of this piece available when I'm attending MCM London Comic Con on the weekend of 25th-27th October.

 

Life Drawing 002

It's been far too long since I got the opportunity to do some life drawing. Every time I get a chance to do it I immediately recall how much I love it and to get back into it on a regular basis if possible.

Foolishly I attended this new class with nothing but large sheets of paper and pretty chunky charcoal only to find the drawing boards pretty small. I ended up trying to define small details with a glorified lump of coal. This in itself though was fun, as usually with illustration and comic work I'm using fine touch pencil lead so this is an opportunity to not be too precious and just enjoy the basics of mark making.

Alternative Press Fair

I'll have a table at the Alternative Press Fair on Saturday 1st June 2013 in North West London, see website link for full details and address info. It's in conjunction with 'No Dark Places' DIY music festival.

I'll be selling comics, prints and original work. It's free entry so no excuses!

Technicolour Fun!

 

I've digitally coloured a recent ink piece. Basically just wanted to have a bit of fun and have a bit of retro pop and crackle fun in the vein of Mike Allred and Steve Rude.

 

This will be available as a print this weekend when I'm attending London MCM Comic Con. Hopefully see you there!
