New Empress Magazine - Poppins v Magritte

A recent cover design created for the first digital edition of New Empress film magazine.

It was a lot of fun to work on but caused quite a few problems getting off the ground with composition then colour scheme.

Had fun bringing screen printed style effects into the final mix.

Big Ten Bob Blow-Out

Over at my Etsy shop I'm selling a number of original one-off pieces including ink, watercolour and acrylic work for the crazy price of £10 each (this does not include additional postage costs, that would be crazy).

Below are a number of images:

I'm only posting to UK and Ireland, expect 10-14 days for delivery.

Call Centre Escape

Here's a first page of a 6-pager I've wrapped up.

It's scripted by David McAtamney, both of us had post-college experience of working in the same barn-like satanic mill call centre in Belfast (although at different times) so demons were being exorcised here in script and art.

And the original pencils...

This is going to go into the next issue of 'Random', which I'll have out for London Comic-Con Expo at the end of May as I've got a table booked in the Comic Village section, looking forward to it!

David's got a music blog 'Weekly Rations' which has some great music mixes and odds and sods, check out his live recording post if you want to hear three grown men descend down the evolutionary chain in real-time through mass alcohol consumption.

This post is dedicated to all people who have worked or do work in call centres.

New Empress Magazine - United Artists

This is recent full-page illustration created for the fourth issue of New Empress magazine.

The brief was to do the line-up of the founders of United Artists production company in 1919 in the style of The Usual Suspects film poster. I dovetailed this with contemporary Art Deco styling and colour palette.

Stalking Elk Magazine - Mr. Sandman

This is a one-pager I scripted and drew for the latest issue of Stalking Elk magazine. The theme of the issue was 'Dream'. Click to embiggen...

'i am i' Project

I've recently been involved with a community project which was created and facilitated by Kate Brown.

Initially, children from a range of backgrounds from areas in Co.Donegal, Ireland, were given an opportunity to tell stories that were important to them about their lives. These were transcribed as they were spoken.

Following this, I created and designed picture book page spreads which contained these stories (click to embiggen).

We wanted to bring illustrative elements into the text but not override it, as the children's stories were the main focus. It was decided to drop cap the first letter of each story and through illustration, intertwine elements of the story through it. This was a nod to the ancient Celtic art of illuminated manusrcipts.

Below are a number of individual samples:

The printed artwork was then framed, with three dimensional objects related to the stories placed within.

These are shots from the opening of the exhibit in Ballybofey Library. Co.Donegal on 28th November:

This was a fun and bright and breezy project to work on.

This project was supported by the PEACE III Programme, managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Donegal County Council and with support in kind through the Donegal Library Service.
